The roads were designed and constructed by the County Council, in partnership with Homes England, Fareham and Gosport Borough Councils and the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to facilitate commercial and residential development within the Solent Enterprise Zone. Formerly home to HMS Daedalus, a Royal Naval air station and today an airport which remains at the heart of the Solent Enterprise Zone.
Daedalus Drive and Meteor Way are both key routes into the Enterprise Zone, which was built to help attract new investment, support the growth of local businesses and create new jobs across Hampshire.
Adoption of these roads, in conjunction with the new Stubbington Bypass (due to open at the end of May), and the recently opened Eclipse busway extension in Gosport, are part of the County Council’s strategic vision to improve travel access into Gosport and Fareham, reducing congestion and improving journey times for road users.
Following adoption, the ongoing maintenance responsibilities will transfer to Hampshire County Council, as the highway authority.
